We had a rather overwhelming response both on Twitter and also through the blog here, and for that we give you thanks. Which sounds really formal. It’s Sunday so the lingo stays.

Anyway, just as a quick update, we’re starting to get back to people now as regards themes and ideas, so don’t think you’re suddenly being ignored!

Why ESC is free

Perhaps we haven’t hammered this home enough.

We’re free because we believe in freedom.

We believe art should be freely available to whoever wants it. I know we’re stocked in posh places at the moment but we’re planning on branching out.

We’re free because the need to escape is in everyone. You see it everywhere. Our society is about escapaing the mundane awfulness that is modern life. I mean, for example, hating one’s job is expected. 40 hours a week for 40ish years in the only time on earth you’re ever going to get? How is that right?

The entire world needs to ESC. We need to ESC you.

A few sentences ago, I mentioned that we’re stocked in places. Currently we’re not. Want to know why? ESC costs us money and seeing as we’re … not Donald Trump … it doesn’t get out and about as much as we think it needs to. But that’s okay, really, because it’s online up there.

Ever on the look-out for cheaper means of production or a rich patron like in the Renaissance,

Glass Town – Charlotte Brontë Made Zines

So it’s been all over the place but a manuscript attributed to Charlotte Brontë has sold in Sotheby’s for £690,850 (about €822 274) .

It’s teeny tiny and was written by her when she was 14. It’s said to be set in Glasstown, the ‘earliest fictional world created by the Bronte siblings’. So does Glasstown relate to Gondol & Angria at all?

It’s interesting, though, the lengths people would go to ESC. Why does most of this magic and stepping away from the mundane seem to fall away as people grow older? We all had special worlds as children, games and stories and histories that grownups couldn’t follow or begin to understand. But as people grow older you turn from pirates into commuters, shop assistants, customer service representatives, bankers, desk clerks, admin.

How does this happen?

This is why people need ESC.

And as children growing up in the Haworth Parsonage…they needed all the ESC they could get, I suppose. Even in just 35 millimetres by 61 millimetres.
